Jessica Heidel of Belle Plaine garner 2 silver medals at state track meet; Wellington has no placers

first_imgby James Jordan, Sumner Newscow — Jessica Heidel of Belle Plaine was the biggest Sumner County winner this weekend in the State Track and Field Championships at Wichita State University this weekend. Heidel finished second in the 100 meters with a 12.63 time, and second in the long jump at 17-01, taking home two silver medals at the state Class 3A track meet in Wichita Saturday.Much of Friday’s competition was rained out, so the Kansas State High School Activities Association started the meet at 7 a.m. And got the entire meet in Saturday. Heidel also placed seventh in the triple jump at 34-05.It was a rather quiet Sumner County weekend as there were no state champions crowned. Athletes from Belle Plaine and Conway Springs did the best at the state meet. Conway Springs girls finished seventh while boys finished 14th. Belle Plaine girls placed 13th thanks to Heidel’s performance.Mason Misak of Conway Springs was second in the boys’ javelin throwing at 180-07. Lucas Shaffer was fourth in the boys high jump leaping at 6-02.MaKayla Hollis of Conway Springs was third in the girls’ pole vault at 10-feet even. Also from Conway Springs, Alicia Carter was fourth in the girls shot put at 36-04. Also, from Conway Springs Skylar Misak was fifth in the girls’ javelin at 124-11.In Class 2A Oxford’s Kaleb Hunt was sixth in the high jump at 6-00. He was also eighth in the 110 hurdles at 16.39) and 13th in the 200 at 23.86.In Class 1A, Suzann Hagar of Caldwell was sixth in the girls’ 400 at 1:02.03. Colten Ward was seventh in the boys 400 at 52.58.In Class 4A, Wellington’s entries completed their events Friday with no state placers. Therefore, Wellington received any points for the boys or the girls. In the Girls’ 4×100 relay, Wellington placed 13th in the preliminaries and did not move to the finals on Saturday. The team members of Taylor McGlothlin, Jaycee Schettler, Dietra Sober, Camryn Ricke, Taryn Stoddard and Sierra Rademacher ran in at 51.84.
