Two New Commissioners Appointed

first_imgTwo new appointments to the Human Rights Commission were announced today, July 3, by Ross Landry, the Minister responsible for the Human Rights Act. The new commissioners are Darren Desmond of Sydney and Andrea Paul of Pictou. “Mr. Desmond and Ms. Paul are leaders in their communities and bring a wide variety of experience,” said Mr. Landry. “Their experience will strengthen the Human Rights Commission and allow them to make a positive contribution in their new roles.” Commissioners play a strategic role at the commission and make decisions on human rights issues. The commission looks for members with diverse backgrounds who represent all areas of the province. Mr. Desmond is a lifelong volunteer and sports coach in the African Canadian and First Nations communities. He is employed as co-ordinator of African Canadian Student Affairs for the Nova Scotia Community College campuses in Sydney and Port Hawkesbury. Mr. Desmond also has a graduate degree in education with a concentration in Africentric leadership. Ms. Paul is chief of the Pictou Landing First Nation. She acts as the band’s spokesperson, chairs the council meetings and oversees the band’s finances. She also teaches Mi’kmaq in the local community school. Prior to teaching, Ms. Paul was a student councillor and worked with both youth and adults in her community. The two newest appointments will bring the commission to its full complement of 12. Gen VK Singh opens Rs 49 crore Vasundhara flyover

first_imgGhaziabad: Union Minister of State for Surface Transport Gen (retired) V.K. Singh opened the Vasundhara flyover for public here on Thursday. The flyover will facilitate travel from the Mohan Nagar side to the UP Gate without any stoppage. It will also allow residents of Indirapuram and Vasundhara to travel to the industrial area site 4, Sahibabad Industrial Estate, without facing any traffic jam. The construction of the Rs 49 crore flyover was started in April 2018. The Minister said the project could be completed in record time because of good coordination between different agencies like the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), the Municipal Corporation, the district administration and the state highway authorities.last_img read more
